You get beef sliced thin and dried until it snaps, not the thick, sweet chew of most jerky on the shelf. Every strip carries the same Fuego chile-lime powder that is in our jar, so the heat builds as you eat.

It needs no fridge before you open it. Keep a pouch in the truck, the gym bag or the desk drawer, tear the notch when you are hungry and press the zipper shut after.

Duran Snacks makes it in Fort Worth, Texas, under USDA inspection at establishment 4188, the number printed on the pouch.

It is part of the Tizon pantry, and the powder on it is sold on its own in a 5.25 oz jar.

Questions about Tizon Lumbre Fuego Carne Seca

What makes Tizon carne seca different from jerky?

Carne seca is cut thin and dried until it snaps, the way it is made in northern Mexico. Thick American jerky is softer and chewier, and often sweeter.

Where is your Tizon carne seca made?

In Fort Worth, Texas, by Duran Snacks, under USDA inspection at establishment 4188. The establishment number is printed on the pouch.

Can you eat Tizon carne seca with a soy allergy?

No. The label says "Contains Soy": the hydrolyzed soy protein and the soy oil in the ingredient list both come from soybeans.

How long does a pouch of Tizon carne seca keep?

Unopened, it keeps on the shelf until the date on the pouch. USDA FSIS gives commercially packaged jerky 12 months on the shelf. After opening, close the zipper and eat it soon, while it is still crisp.
